[attr="class","dupertext"]Growing up as a sickly child, Shiori learned to shut away all of her complaints and pain away with a smile and white lies of how she was feeling from day to day to both not worry another person or show weakness. It was something that came almost naturally after being looked with pity to disgust from all sorts of people ranging from relatives to friends of the family. Soon she was able to see what was merely just pity and what was malice derived from sadistic pleasure of seeing her confided in her bed and wheelchair.
Still, despite all the events that happened in her life, Shiori did not forget the fact that the pain she had felt should not be given to another person. It always hurts her to see others in pain, making her wishing for their happiness sincerely.
Shiori is filled with the need to prove her existence --- that she is alive and not dying anymore --- to maybe even one person in the world due to the constant feeling of loneliness. As such, she forces herself to seem cheerful to make friends even when she wasn't all that energetic at all. Behind her mask, her thoughts would rage between ridiculous situations such as forgetting someone's name could mean her being convicted of murder because she was holding back evidence which would eventually lead to the death of everyone in Nazo since the killer got away free.
Added to that, she has a habit of being a little too curious about everything and everyone after those years spent watching the world outside her window. When it comes to making decision, she is rather reckless and goes with one of the first few things to come to her mind. Unfortunately, it also extends to satisfying her curiosity so she doesn't think of the dangers at first (unless it is for someone else's safety).
She does not like talking about herself nor could she really push herself to open up truly to another person even if she wanted to. Despite that, Shiori gets hurt by other's words even as she hides it by with a sweet smile and pretends like nothing was wrong in the world like she might be kind of oblivious. With only the strength to take a half a step forward, Shiori wishes that someone could just sweep her off her feet and make the world shine.
[attr="class","dupertext"]on that beautiful day It hurts. Her lungs and chest were burning. She was sweating everywhere and muscles she didn't even know she had were hurting. It didn't help that she was actually suffering from muscle aches from her last walk three days again.
Shiori could only look back and be amazed by her progress. Before she could barely make it to the door from her own bed to being able to walk thirty minutes in the garden without dying as of yet. Collasping was an issue she had not quite resolved yet.
As she felt herself relax in the content of her thoughts, her chest heaved and she found herself coughing and choking from the lack of oxygen. The frail child collapsed on the soft grass as she tried to remember how to breath properly.
'One... Two... One... Two...'
The rays of the sun shined on her and warmed her cold body that layers of layers of blankets could never do. The sky was so blue that it brought more tears to her eyes which had already gathered from the pain. She was still able to feel the breeze of the wind on her skin and how to grass tickled her bare arms.
'Ah... I am alive...' Shiori thought to herself. The girl forced to smile and pretend that there wasn't a single thing wrong in the world even if she kind of looked like she was on her deathbed.
It wouldn't take long before someone finds her and drags her back on to her bed.
Maybe before the end of this year she might even be able to run?
And when that happens... and when that happens...
'I wonder what the outside world looks like...'
Maybe it was actually filled with monsters. Or maybe everyone was like demons like those fairytale books she read in her room. No matter what weird and terrible world her mind could draw, she could feel her heart start to pick up from the excitement.
Were there faeries? Were there talking cats?
She wanted to be able to see it all.
[attr="class","dupertext"]PAST Her parent's marriage was arranged --- or so her relatives gossiped every so often when they come to visit. Yet just about anyone could tell that her mother loved her father so dearly even if her father didn't care at all. The only reason why that Shiori was even born was because her father wanted to cease the rumours and gossip after years of no child within that marriage.
Thus Yasaka Shiori was born, desired only for the sake of tying her mother and father's tradtional family tighter as their roots traced back to the olden days of Japan.
Shiori was a sickly child even from her birth. It didn't take long before she was ridden with fevers and pain in her body that led her to be rushed to the hospital before eventually confided to her bed. Her mother was frantic about Shiori's health --- after all, Shiori symoblized the marriage between her and her husband. Yet no medicine helped and her health continued to fail every so often.
Beyond her window, she hears gossip everyday and how she proved that her mother was a disgrace. After all, if the daughter was in such a bad shape then think about what would happen if a son was to be born.
--- He would be a complete failure like that girl.
Even as a child, Shiori knew something broke then and surely for her mother as well. It didn't take long before her mother rushed into her bedroom, hollering and yelling---- Why were you born!? Why are you disgracing me!? Why doesn't my husband care for you!? Why wouldn't he turn his eyes to me after all I have done for him!?
Shiori did not know the answer. She did not know why she was denied since she was born.
Was she not wanted?
She felt her mother wrapped her hands against her neck and tried to strangle her to death. Thankfully, she was saved by the servants that came to check on the noise who forcibly pulled her mother apart.
Shiori lost conscious there for more than a month before she opened her eyes once more. It was then she learnt her mother was diagnosed with neurosis, forced to divorce, disowned by her family and was living in the mental ward for the time being.
The first time her father came to visit her, he came with a new wife who clinged against his arm.
"Your role is finished," he said. Nothing more. Nothing less.
TOWARDS THE FUTURE If no one was going to save her then she will do it herself. From that very moment, Shiori forced her sickly body to move --- to eat --- to breath --- to run --- to feel once more. She broke her body over and over again until it strengthened to the point that she was able to pace herself for a long distance marathon.
She had a new half brother who was already designated as the new heir. Her father cared nothing for her and her step-mother smiles at her pitifully but does nothing.
Her birth mother erased her own memories to escape the pain and she was now happily married with a kind man and build a new family.
Some of the servants finally acknowledged her and sometimes treated her like she was their own daughter.
Shiori thought that maybe it was alright then. She had her friends at school and outside, hobbies, likes and dislikes.
Maybe, surely, the world was changing.
